Earnings help lift TSX to highs
For the second-straight day, the TSX closed at a record high. The Canadian index gained nearly 1% or 344 points to 36,146, lifted by a strong performance in materials and tech. Shopify reported a strong quarter and soared 16.47% while Eldorado Gold jumped 12.83% on the back of gold prices leaping over 4% to US$4,246. Meanwhile, silver also rallied over 4% to US$61.85
and WTI slipped over 1% to US$74.95 after the U.S. government promised an end to its war with Iran (again). Telus rose 2.69% as the most-active name.
The picture was mixed on Wall Street after the S&P slipped 0.17%, the Nasdaq tumbled 0.83%, though the Dow advanced 0.49% to make another record close. Major names were Nvidia up 3.43%, Newmont 6.71%, Charles River Labs 11.36%, Palantir -2.6% and AMD -7.04%. Bitcoin increased 1% to US$64,930. The U.S. 10-year yield slipped to 4.61%.
