Chips fall, TSX climbs
It was a down day for the high-flying chip stocks as Intel tumbled 9.66% and Micron sank 4.71%. The Nasdaq slid 1.16% as the S&P declined 0.45% and the Dow lost 0.25%. Meanwhile, Tesla closed -4.02%, Occidental Petroleum 5.88% and Cboe Global Markets 5.53%. Bitcoin shed US$55 to US$63,735, and the U.S. 10-year yield rose to 4.547%.
In contrast, the TSX advanced 0.12% to approach its all-time high as nine sectors rallied. Energy and telcos led while materials continued to sell off. Key Canadian names: CNQ 3.2%, TC Energy 2.69%, Americas Gold & Silver -10.25% and Hudbay Minerals -7.78%. In commodities, silver fell 3.25% to US$59.90, gold declined US$51 to US$4,113, and WTI rose US$3.45 to US$72.
