Black Friday rally
The TSX marched to yet another record close on Black Friday, while the Wall Street indices reopened for a half-day of trading and also rallied. The Canadian index rose 0.6% or 186 points to 31,382 on Friday and gained 4.05% for the week. For the session, nine sectors rose, led once again by a strong performance in mining stocks. The price of silver has been soaring to record highs, around US$56.40 an ounce on Friday. Little surprise that the best performers on Wall Street were Endeavour Silver 12.72%, Aya Gold & Silver 12%, First Majestic Silver 11.35%, Discovery Silver 9.97% and Pan American Silver 6.7%. Not to be outdone, gold advanced US$81 to US$4,239, though WTI held around US$58.55.
Before closing at 1:00 pm EST in New York, the S&P climbed 0.54%, the Nasdaq 0.65% and the Dow 0.61% or 289 points. For the week, the three indices rallied around 4.5-5%, with the Nasdaq nearly touching 6%. Once more, tech led the way: Intel 10.19%, Moderna 3.88%, Sandisk 3.83% and Western Digital 3.54%. However, the most active name, Nvidia, slipped 1.81%. The U.S. 10-year yield edged up to 4.017%.
