AI tech slide resumes
On Thursday, the sell-off led by AI tech stocks resumed following a respite on Wednesday. Fears over inflated valuations fueled the action and left the Nasdaq 1.9% lower. Faring slightly better were the S&P, down 1.12%, and the Dow which slipped 0.84%. Among the most influential stocks were Nvidia, finishing the day -3.65%, Tesla -3.5%, AMD -7.27% and Palantir -7.27%. Another key name was DoorDash, tumbling 17.45%.
Canadian equities performed better, but still saw losses. The TSX shed 220 points or 0.73% as only three sectors, including telcos, saw any gains. Healthcare, tech and industrials suffered heavy losses. Major movers: Lightspeed jumped 15.94%, B2Gold -5.96%, Suncor 1.89%, TransAlta -11.22% and Goeasy -17%.
Commodites were flat. WTI held around US$59.55 while gold traded at US$3,980. Bitcoin, however, sank US$3,000 to US$100,660.
