Stocks partially recover
Wednesday saw Wall and Bay streets partially recover Tuesday’s sharp losses, fed by concerns of overvaluation in AI tech stocks. The S&P rose 0.37%, the Nasdaq 0.65% and the Dow 0.48% while the TSX advanced 1.09% or 325 points.
Tech counted among the major gainers including Intel by 3.65%, Tesla 4.01% and Seagate 10.14%, but Nvidia slipped 1.75% and Super Micro Computer tanked 11.33%. In Toronto, all but the telcos climbed higher, none more so than tech, energy, materials and healthcare. On Bay Street, the major movers included B2Gold up 1.6%, Suncor 4.53%, ATS soaring 10.47%, Iamgold 8.57% and Cargojet sinking 13.89%.
In commodities, gold increased US$50 to US$3,982 though WTI sank 1.55% to US$59.60. Bitcoin recovered 3.35% to US$103,615. Meanwhile, the U.S. 10-year yield edged up to 4.163%.
