TSX hits new high

Optimism fueled the TSX as it made a new record close on Thursday of 25,897 after rallying 0.8% or 205 points. Every sector gained, except energy. The strongest areas were staples, industrials and healthcare.
Major movers were MDA Space soaring 7.72%, Stantec 5.35%, Secure Waste Infrastructure 6.9%, Whitecap Resources -3.07% and Baytex -8.27%. Though WTI slipped 2.2% to US $61.75, gold climbed US$61 to US$3,238.
Wall Street was slightly mixed by comparison: the S&P up 0.41%, the Nasdaq -0.18% and the Dow 0.65%. Key names here were Amazon at -2.425, Super Micro Computer -2.31%, Cisco 4.85%, Dollar General 6.03% and Viatris 4.39%. Meanwhile, Bitcoin slipped US$195 to US$103,375 as the U.S. 10-year yield inched down to 4.437%.
