Stock flat, gold and Bitcoin shine
The week began with equities markets flat, with the Nasdaq up a few points and the TSX, S&P and Dow down a few points. Sectors on Bay Street were mixed with utilities and industrials up and discretionary and materials down.
Goeasy jumped 4.39%, Athabasca Oil 3.3%, Stelco 3.66%, but the two most-traded names were lost ground: TD at -1.03% and Baytex -3.11%. WTI slipped 0.5% to $86.50 a barrel, but gold kept climbing to a new high of $2,357 an ounce.
Similarly, Bitcoin flirted with new highs around $71,700. Major movers among U.S. stocks included Albemarle up 6.67%, Tesla 4.9%, Fortinet -3.55% and Paramount Global -7.6%. The U.S. 10-year yield inched up to 4.422%.
