Stocks fade into the close
It was a downbeat session in Toronto and particularly New York on Thursday after stocks tumbled in the final hour of trading. Wall Street’s major indices all slid over 1% with the Dow as much as 1.3% even though the U.S. 10-year-yield edged down to 4.309%.
Major movers include AMD by -7.5%, Paramount Global -9.02%, Alphabet (both classes) -2.52% and -2.53% , Albemarle -5.65% and AbbVie -5.36%. Bitcoin rallied 3.35% to $68,200.
Canadian equities fared slightly better as the TSX gave back 0.47% but remained above 22,000. Only three of the 11 sectors gained, led by consumer discretionary. In contrast, staples plunged as did industrials and materials. Notable names were Dollarama soaring nearly 10%, Lundin Mining up 5.79%, Tilray -5.73%, B2gold -2.89% and Lightspeed -5.83%. Gold declined $15 to $2,285 though WTI crude added 1.35% to $86.50 a barrel.
