Hot Meta, hot jobs report
Meta reported a blow-out quarter after the bell Thursday and announced a surprise first-ever dividend, which sent shares rocketing Friday by 20.44%. The S&P closed 1.26% higher on Friday and 1.38% for the week, while Dow added 0.49% and 1.43% respectively. The latter two indices made record highs of 4,969 and 38,7078.
Other notable names were Edwards Lifesciences, leaping 9.63%, Clorox surging 5.51% and Charter Communications sliding 16.4%. Against this backdrop were the latest non-farm payroll employment numbers, which saw 353,000 jobs added in the U.S. instead of the expected 187,000. As a result, the U.S. 10-year yield returned above 4.0%. Bitcoin slipped 0.2% to fall under $43,000.
In contrast, the TSX continued to underperform its American peers by slipping 0.16% on Friday and a little more than that for the week.
