TSX rallies to start second half of 2022
With Wall Street closed for Independence Day, the TSX rallied 0.89% top return above 19,000. All sectors were in the green, led by materials and energy. WTI rose 2% past $110 while WCS jumped nearly 3% to $90.
Big movers were Vermilion Energy soaring 8.73% an an upgrade and price target hike; Cathedral Energy rocketing 32% after buying a U.S. company and expanding south; and Voyager Digital tanking 42.24% after it suspended trading of its crypto platform. Also, Baytex jumped 4.96%, Barrick Gold 4.31% and Crescent Point 5.14%.
Losers included Dye & Durham at -5.75%, Shawcor -6.3% and Capstone Copper -4.77%. Meanwhile, Bitcoin climbed 2% to $18,200.
