Wall Street fades, but TSX shines post-Nvidia
The most anticipated earnings dropped late Wednesday and beat on virtually metric, but Nvidia still sank 5.46% in Thursday trading. In turn, the Nasdaq closed -1.18%, the S&P -0.54% and the Dow gained only 17 points. In contrast, the TSX rallied 1.1% or 374 points to close at another record, 34,501.
In Toronto, eight sectors rose, led by materials, tech and industrials led the surge while healthcare lagged the most. Key movers: Enerflex 17.06%, Celestica -5.18%, New Gold 7.74%, CargoJet 6.28% and Northland Power 8.34% after issuing a sunny forecast. In New York, Paramount Skydance jumped 10.04%, J.M. Smucker 8.82%, Corning -6.31% and Albemarle -5.59%.
Meanwhile, WTI held at US$65.50, silver slipped 0.9% to US$88.30 and gold added US$21 to US$5,185. Bitcoin continued to slump, down US$1,520 to US$67,430. The U.S. 10-year yield edged down to 4.012%.
