U.S. stock rise, TSX flat to cap positive week

American indices shrugged off trade worries and recent weak data to climb on Friday and for the week. The S&P rose 0.78% on Friday, the Nasdaq advanced 0.98% and the Dow 0.47%. For the week, the S&P gained 2.4%, the Nasdaq 3.87% and the Dow 1.3%. It was the best week for the S&P and Nasdaq since June and another record close for the latter.
Winners: Apple up another 4.24%, Gilead 8.28%, Albemarle 7.74%, Losers: Trade Desk crashed 38.61% on an earnings miss and weak guidance, and GoDaddy -11.25%. The U.S. 10-year yield held around 4.285% while Bitcoin sank 0.6% to $116,800.
The TSX climbed 1.8% for the week which saw record closes. On Friday, it was flat, down two points. Sectors were mixed, but saw outsized gains in healthcare and telcos and mild losses in discretionary and other areas. Major movers: Open Text soaring 10.01%, Saputo 8.92%, Jamieson Wellness 7.21%, Sun Life Financial -7.95% and Centerra Gold -6.65%. Gold itself added US$2 to US$3,455 while WTI was down 0.5% to US$63.55.
