TSX flat while Wall Street rallies
The trading week began with a flat TSX, shedding 0.17% as more sectors than not declined. Financials outperformed all, with Manulife up 1.73%, for example, while energy, utilities and telcos sank. Other major movers were Bausch Health surging 9.76% and Nuvei popping 3.66% while Enbridge closed -1.05% in heavy trading, followed by TC Energy at -1.66%. WTI crude sank 1.7% to fall back to $74 a barrel.
The rally continued south of the border with the S&P adding 0.39% to remain above 4,500, the Nasdaq 0.93% to top 14,000, and the Dow 0.22%. Last week’s cooler-than-expected inflation numbers and the continuing mania over anything AI continue to drive American markets.
Outsized moves on Mondaycame from AT&T, sliding 6.69%, Tesla up 3.2%, Apple adding 1.73%, Ford tanking nearly 6% and Verizon sliding 7.5%. The U.S. 10-year yield remained at 3.813% while Bitcoin retraced 1% to below $30,000.
