TSX edges up on election day

The TSX cautiously added 0.36% on Monday as Canadians headed to the election booths to choose their Prime Minister. Eight sectors, led by telcos, staples and energy, rose, while healthcare lagged the most. Key names included Denison Mines up 4.64%, Whitecap Resources 1.1%, NexGen Energy 4.4%, Tilray -5.8% and Lundin Mining -3.78%. Gold climbed US$27 to US$3,347 while WTI fell 1.8% to US$61.90.
In contrast, Wall Street treaded water with the Nasdaq slipping 0.17%, the Dow gaining 0.28% and the S&P staying flat. Major movers were Nvidia at -2.05%, AbbVie popping 3.38%, Centene 3.09%, Colgate-Palmolive -3.14% and Kraft-Heinz -2.31%. Bitcoin edged up by US$390 to US$94,690 while the U.S. 10-year yield held around 4.206%. Big tech names will report this week.
