Stocks stabilize, Bitcoin climbs
Following Monday’s sell-off, stocks in New York and Toronto stabilized. The U.S. indices saw modest gains: S&P up 0.25%, the Nasdaq 0.59% and the Dow 0.39% while the TSX slipped 0.17%. Silver continued its record run by reaching US$58.55 while gold gave back US$2 to US$4,209. WTI sank 1.15% to US$58.60. Bitcoin halted its recent slide by recovering 5.6% to US$91,295. The U.S. 10-year yield hovered around 4.09%.
Only financials and another sector gained on the TSX while materials, energy and staples lagged the most. The Canadian banks began reporting. Laurentian Bank soared 18.39%. Meanwhile, CNQ closed -1.53%, Suncor -2.09%, Cenovus -1.96% and Goeasy -5.9%. In New York, Boeing soared 10.15%, Intel jumped 8.65%, NXP Semiconductors rallied 7.95% and Block sank 6.59%.
