S&P hits high as markets climb
Toronto and New York markets edged higher Wednesday in broad-based buying, sending the S&P to a new high of 5,246, up 0.82%. The Nasdaq rose 0.47% and the Dow advanced more than 450 points or 1.19%.
Apple was the most-traded name and rallied 2.03%. Intel jumped 4.07%, Albemarle 8.14% and Cintas 8.12%, but Nvidia sank 2.35%. The U.S. 10-year yield came in at 4.19% as Bitcoin retreated 1.6% to nearly $68,900.
Here at home, the TSX added 0.73% to approach all-time highs. Only tech lost ground and only mildly. Industrials, discretionary and especially materials led the gainers. Of note were TC Energy closing -2.02%, TD up 1.52%, Manulife 1.83%, and Mag Silver 9.48%. Alamos Gold bought Argonaut Gold and the former shot up 6.88%. WTI crude was flat at $81.70 but gold edged up to $2,139 an ounce.
