Santa Claus rally resumes on Wall Street
With the TSX closed on Boxing Day, American markets continued to rally on Tuesday, despite traditionally low volumes. The S&P advanced 0.53% to close less than 1% of its all-time high of 4,796. The Nasdaq added 0.63% to surpass 15,000 and the Dow rose 0.48%.
Chipmakers were among the session’s best performers on Wall Street with Intel rallying 5.2% and AMD 2.87%. Meanwhile, Moderna popped 2.94% though Etsy closed -2.55% and Norwegian Cruise Line -2.67%. The U.S. 10-year yield held around 3.89% as Bitcoin dropped 3.2% to trade below $42,200. WTI crude gained 2.3% to $72.25. The TSX reopens tomorrow for regular trading.
