Royal lifts TSX, S&P hits record

Bank earnings continued to roll in on Wednesday. Canada’s largest bank, Royal, reported a healthy beat and its shares jumped 5.08% to record highs. Financials and energy led eight sectors higher and the TSX up by 0.42%. Discretionary was among the few laggards. However, National Bank reported a miss and sank 3.79%. Meanwhile, CNQ rallied 2.37%, Whitecap Resources 1.75%, Wesdome Gold Mines 4.33%. Gold edged up US$2 to US$3,395 while WTI rose 1% to US$63.40.
As Wall Street awaited Nvidia’s results after the closing bell, the three main indices marched higher: S&P 0.31%, Nasdaq 0.21% and the Dow 0.32%. S&P made a new record high of 28,433. Major movers: Albemarle 7.54%, Datadog 4.29%, CarMax 4.02%, Paramount Skydance -6.5% and Palantir -2.58%. The U.S. 10-year yield held around 4.234%. Bitcoin advanced over US$400 to US$117,770. After hours, Nvidia traded 3% lower after reporting.
