Oil and stocks extend gains
Tuesday saw a further rise in markets in Toronto and New York. The TSX added 0.28% though stayed below 20,000. Most sectors were up, led by energy. WTI crude jumped 2.5% to $74.50 a barrel.
Crescent Point Energy rallied 2.82% and Athabasca popped 9.27%. Elsewhere, Transalta Renewables soared 18.47% though Park Lawn sank 2.8%. TD changed the most hands and rose 0.53%.
All three major American indices extended gains. The S&P closed 0.67%, the Nasdaq 0.55% and the Dow 0.93%. Key movers included Newell Brands up 11.02%, Activision Blizzard 10.02%, Etsy 9.18%, AMD -1.99% and Eli Lilly -3.04%. The 10-year yield dipped below 4% as Bitcoin added 0.6% to $30.60.
