Oil and dovish Fed drive markets to new highs

Markets closed the week and made more highs after a strong week. The Fed’s Jay Powell made dovish comments Thursday that resonated Friday. The S&P rose 0.88% to a new high of 4,509 while the Nasdaq surged 1.23% to 15,129 another new high. Not to be outdone the Dow rallied 0.69%.

Big gainers included Freeport-McMoran leapt 5.65%, Diamondback jumped 4.93% while semis rallied inckuding AMD by 3.54% and Nvdia by 2.56%. On the downside werr Moderna at -4.58%.

Oil helped lift the TSX by 0.69% to a record high of 20,644. Tech, materials and real estate rallied while staples lagged. Big gainers included Fortuna Mines up 5.54% and Montreal tech names Lightspeed by 5.22%, and Nuvei at 5.05%. Losing ground were Spin Master at -3.61% and Sleep Country -2.19%.
