Materials push TSX to record close
The Canadian index made another record close this week, ending Friday up over 380 points or 0.68% to 36,381. A strong rally on materials led the way with gold prices up 2.4% to US$4,403 and silver advancing 3.1% to US$63.30. Beating earnings were B2Gold, which soared 22.47%, and Russel Metals, up 15.25%. Altus Group also reported and rallied 15.65%, though Extendicare missed and was hammered 5.12%, and Open Text sank 3.55% despite beating. WTI slipped 0.4% to US$76.88. For the week, the TSX jumped 2.5%/
The American indices performed even better with the Dow up 3%, the S&P 3.6% and the Nasdaq over 5%. For Friday, they gained 0.28%, 0.62% and 1.3%.Delivering a blow-out quarter, Airbnb rocketed 17.43%, while Ulta Beauty gained 4.89%, Dream Finders Homes 7.17%, Zoetis sliding 5.97% and Trade Desk cratering 21.9% after reporting a miss. The U.S. delivered a disppponting jobs report which raised the U.S. 10-year yield to 4.64%.
