Markets edge up to record highs

Markets closed on weakness on Monday, but still closed at record highs after gaining a handful of points. The S&P inched 0.1% higher, the Nasdaq 0.4%, the Dow 14 points and the TSX by nearly three points or 0.1%.
The U.S. is in the thick of earnings season, and Verizon jumped 4.04% after reporting. Elsewhere, Alphabet rallied 2.72%, EQT – 9.55% and Coterra Energy -5.33%. The U.S. 10-year yield slipped to 4.378% while Bitcoin retreated nearly 1% to US$117,060.
Trading on Bay Street was also mixed as outsized gains matched losses in energy and other lagging sectors. Major names: CNQ -1.11%, Enbridge -1.41%, Manulife -1.28%, Novagold Resources 8.96% Centerra Gold 7.19%. Though WTI slimped by 0.5% to US$67, gold shone by US$48 to US$3,398.
