Hot U.S. jobs data triggers selling
Much higher than expected gains in U.S. employment sparked selling across the board on Thursday. Investors feared that these numbers will encourage the Fed to keep interest rates higher for longer. The S&P closed -0.82%, the Nasdaq -0.84% and the Dow -1.09% below 34,000.
Notably, Tesla finished -2.04%, Bank of America -2.65%, Intel -1.77% and Moderna -4.07% though Paramount Global added 2.04%. The U.S. 10-year yield jumped past 4% while Bitcoin declined 0.7% to $30,200.
The TSX slid 1.54% as all sectors lost ground especially staples, materials and financials. TD closed -2.12%, the Bank of Nova Scotia -2.32%, Suncor -2.76%, Shopify -3.41% and CNQ 2.13%. WTI was flat below $72.
