Dow hits highs to end record-breaking week
A record-breaking week ended on a mixed note with the Dow closing 0.33% higher at a high of 42,313, while the TSX and Nasdaq gave back around 0.33% and the S&P slipped 0.13%. That said, the TSX still advanced 0.37% for the week and settled just below 24,000. Toronto sectors were mixed with strength in energy and telcos balancing losses in materials and tech.
Among the big names were TC Energy -2.12%, CIBC -1.29%, Advantage Energy 4.19%, Tourmaline Oil 4.01% and Fortuna -5.39%. Gold snapped its winning streak the past week by shedding US$20 on Friday to US$2,652 while WTI regained 1.3% to US$68.55.
On Wall Street, the S&P rose 0.62% over the week, the Dow about that much and the Nasdaq 0.95%. Major names: Wynn Resorts 7.24%, Walgreen 6.34%, Nvidia -2.13%, Tesla 2.45% and Dell -4.96%. The U.S. 10-year held around 3.756% after rising this past week while Bitcoin rose 1.66% to US$65,750.
