Another high for TSX, Wall Street mixed
Strength in financials and materials lifted the TSX by 0.51% on Wednesday to a record close of 36,661 as the Canadian index continued its winning streak. Only three sectors lost ground, led by staples. Silver rose nearly 1% to US$65.20, gold climbed US$40 to US$4,410 while WTI slipped 0.34% to US$82.90. Major movers: Celestica 9.2%, Cenovus 1.32%, H&R REIT -4.65%, Constellation Software -4.51% and Air Canada which soared 12.25% after selling a stake in Aeroplan to bolster its cash flow.
The picture was mixed in New York: S&P 0.26%, the Nasdaq 0.54% and the Dow -0.04%. Big movers included Super Micro Computer which soared 19.02%, Lumentum 13.63%, Amazon -1.83%, Intel 3.22% and Nvidia 3.03% as the AI trade hummed along. The U.S. 10-year yield inched up to 4.688% while Bitcoin slipped by US$430 to US$63,375.
