Dow hits high again, materials sink

While the TSX dipped Monday, the Dow reopened after closing Friday to make another record close. The Dow advanced 0.29% to 53,055, the S&P 0.72% and the Nasdaq 1.12% as AI optimism returned to American markets. Major movers on Wall Street included Western Digital spiking 7.14%, Arista Networks 8.31%, Tesla 6.69%, Pfizer – 2.47% and AutoZone -6.38%. Bitcoin rose nearly US$1,000 to US$63,666, while the U.S. 10-year yield was flat at 4.471%

Materials continued to sink as silver declined 0.6% to US$61.90 and gold slipped by US$14 to US$4,162. Pan American Silver slid 5.76% amid several gold and silver names which saw losses. Materials were the biggest drag on the TSX while financials were among only three sectors in the green. Key Canadian names included CNQ, down 1.29%, though WTI held around US$68.70, Brookfield Business Partners up 4.14%, BCE at -1.92%.
