Commodities sink stocks

As the US, Israel and Iran continue to fight, the price of oil and gold fell Thursday, dragging down the Toronto and New York indices. The TSX sank nearly 500 points or 1.51%, the S&P closed -0.27%, the Nasdaq -0.28% and the Dow -0.44%. Gold tumbled 3.45% to US$4,650, silver slid 3.5% to US$72.55 and WTI fell 1.6% to US$94.80.

In Toronto, energy by far was the strongest sector while staples, discretionary and especially materials led nine sectors down. Key names: Vermilion Energy soaring 14.36%, B2Gold -8.25%, Endeavour Silver -8.22%, CNQ 2.98% and Barrick Gold  -5.45%. In New York: Alibaba -7.09%, Micron -3.73% despite reporting a strong beat, Tesla -3.2%, Fair Isaac -7.47% and Newmont Mining -7.19%. Bitcoin declined US$920 to US$70,305. The U.S. 10-year yield held at 4.26%.
