TSX hits high, Wall Street slumps
The TSX traded above 25,000 for all of Thursday and ended the session with a new closing high. The Canadian index rose 0.22%, led by energy, but lagged by tech.
Major movers: Atkins Realis Group leapt 15.67%, Paramount Resources 15.32%, Manulife 1.78%, Enbridge also 1.78% and Aya Gold & Silver -20%. Gold slipped US$3 to US$2,569, while WTI crude gained 0.3% to US$68.65.
In contrast, the major indices on Wall Street reported losses as the Trump rally appears to have ended. The S&P closed the session at -0.71%, the Nasdaq -0.8% and the Dow -0.52%. Key names included Disney which popped 6.24% after reporting a beat and raising guidance, Wynne Resorts 9.04%, General Dynamics -6.99%, Tesla -5.77% and Super Micro Computer -11.78% after delaying again its financial reporting to the SEC. Yields stayed calm with the 10-year at 4.453% as Bitcoin slipped 1% to US$87,750.
