Stocks sink, yields rise
Volatility returned to markets to start the week. The S&P and Dow sank nearly 1% as the Nasdaq fell 1.25% to close below 18,000. Utilities and communication services were particularly weak.
Major movers: Super Micro Computer soared 16.98%, Nvidia 2.43%, Tesla -3.65%, Vistra -5.09% and Allstate -5.11%. Bitcoin inched up 0.7% to US$63,125. Meanwhile, the U.S. 10-year yield returned to 4%.
In Toronto, the TSX declined 0.47% as only energy gained. Healthcare and utilities led the laggards. Key names: CNQ 3.3%, MDA 3.12%, Baytex 2% Iamgold -9.5% and Fortuna -8.57%. Gold sank US$10 to UA$2,643 and ounce as WTI jumped 4% to US$77 a barrel.
