Markets step back from highs
Stocks in Toronto and New York took a step back Wednesday after reaching record highs the day before. The TSX retreated 11 points as energy and discretionary led the laggards. Only four sectors gained, led by utilities.
Major movers on Bay Street: Lightspeed 13.28%, CNQ -2.28%, Baytex -4%, Magna -5.48% and Denison Mines 4.57%. WTI fell by US$1.75 to settle below US$70 while gold added US$2 to US$2,658.
On Wall Street, the Nasdaq edged up by seven points while the S&P declined 0.19% and the Dow slipped 0.7% or nearly 300 points. Key names: Nvidia 2.18%, HP 5.14%, Intel 3.2%, Ford -4.14% and General Motors -4.87%. The U.S. 10-year inched up to 3.7917% as Bitcoin sank 1.5% to US$63,300.
