Mixed session to end record week
The TSX and Dow added a handful of points on Friday to technically reach new record highs. The Canadian index gained 1.25% over the week and the Dow added 1.6%, driven by the U.S. Fed’s 50-point rate cut. The S&P closed -0.2% on Friday and 1.35% for the week, and the Nasdaq performed -0.33% and 1.5% respectively. The U.S. 10-year yield held around 3.739% as Bitcoin edged down 0.3% to US$62,740. Gold advanced US$33 to a new high of US$2,620 while WTI held at US$71.90.
Sectors were mixed in Toronto with gains in telcos and materials balancing losses in energy and health care. Major movers: Cameco 8.13%, TC Energy 2.65%, CNQ -1.2%, Algonquin Power 1.75% and Ballard Power 5%. In New York: Constellation Energy 22.35% after striking a deal with Microsoft, Intel 3.67%, Tesla -2.29%, Lennar -4.39%, and FedEx -15.15% after badly missing its latest quarter.
