TSX hits new highs, tech weakens
The TSC continued its hitting streak to start the week by rallying 0.62% or 145 points to 23,714. Most sectors gained, led by healthcare, tech and energy. WTI crude jumped 2.6% to return above US$70 a barrel as gold added US$5 to US$2,582.
Major movers: Bausch 10.58%, B2Gold 5.1%, Ballard Power -7%, Kinross Gold -3.74% and Air Canada up 3.47% after averting a pilots’ strike.
The S&P flirted with a new high by advancing 0.13% and the Dow made a new high by adding 0.55%, but tech showed some weakness. Apple closed -2.78% and Nvidia -1.5%, though Intel jumped 6.36% and Oracle 5.12%. Elsewhere, Bath & Body Works rallied 6.25%. The U.S. 10-yield remained around 3.62% while Bitcoin gave back 1.75% to US$68,175. All eyes are on the U.S. Fed’s interest rate decision on Wednesday.
