TSX and tech’s big week
Friday the 13th was lucky for the TSX which hit another new high after rising 0.4% on the strength of all but three sectors. Real estate and materials led while staples were modestly weak.
Major movers: CNQ -2.03%, B2Gold 2.62%, New Gold 7.44%, and Birchcliffe Energy -3.81%. WTI rose slightly to US$62.20 while gold added US$23 to US$2,580. The TSX gained 3.5% over the week.
On Wall Street, the major indices rose over half a percent on Friday but the S&P jumped 4%, the Nasdaq 6% and the Dow 2.6% for the week. Key names: Warner Brothers Discovery 10.54%, Etsy 7.56%, Boeing -3.69%, Uber 6.45%, and Adobe -8.47% after beating top and bottom lines but issuing disappointing guidance. The U.S. 10-year yield slipped to 3.65% as Bitcoin jumped 2.7% to US$59,860.
