Stocks rebound
After losing further ground on Wednesday, markets in New York and Toronto finally rebounded from Monday’s rout. On Thursday, the S&P surged 2.29%, the Nasdaq 2.82% or over 400 points, and the Dow 1.73%.
Semis led the gains with the most-active names being Nvidia by 6.32% and Intel 7.58%. Also, ON Semis rallied 7.94%, Eli Lilly 9.08% and Warner Bros. -8.88%. Bitcoin rallied 7.7% to US$59,400 while the U.S. 10-year yield stayed just below 4%.
In Canada, the TSX jumped 1.7% as WTI rose 1.1% to US$76 and gold added US$41 to US$2,424. Key names started with energy. Suncor rose 2.69% and Baytex 3.15%. Elsewhere, First Quantum Minerals jumped 7.79%, Canadian Tire 7.74% and Shopify 7.15%.
