Tech leads rebound
Tech lifted markets, American especially, on Thursday to end their recent slump. The S&P rose 0.88% to nearly 4,800, the Nasdaq jumped 1.35% past 15,000, and the Dow added 0.54%.
After enduring recent downgrades, Apple received a major upgrade and shares popped 3.26%. Meanwhile, airlines enjoyed lift-off as American Airlines rallied 6.88% and Southwest 6.83%. However, Humana closed -7.99% and Tesla-1.7%. The U.S. 10-year yield held around 4.14% though Bitcoin slid 4.2% to $41,000.
The TSX gained a modest 0.3% though all but three sectors were positive. Staples and industrials led gainers, but utilities lagged. Birchcliffe Energy tanked 9.06% after slashing its dividend. Fortuna Silver tumbled 11.67% while GFL Environmental rallied 4.15%. The banks were mixed with Royal adding 0.61% but Bank of Nova Scotia slipping 1.08%. WTI crude popped on lower-than-expected U.S. oil inventories to $74.
