Wall St. rallies, oil dips
As the TSX inched up 0.5% to return above 22,000 Tuesday, Wall Street rallied into the close to extend Monday’s gains. The S&P closed 1.23%, the Nasdaq 1.84% and the Dow 0.97%.
Tech led gains yet again: Adobe 3.63%, Airbnb 4.69%, and AMD 2.49%. Travel names soared as Booking Holdings added 4.18%. Elsewhere, Beyond Meat rose 4.54% and AMC climbed 3.85% as the meme stocks showed some life. WTI crude fell below $100 a barrel as Russia and Ukraine engaged in peace talks, though WTI climbed to $105 and shed less than 1% for the session. This made energy the weakest sector and pushed Chevron down by 1.22%. Bitcoin slipped -0.65% to trade around $47,600 while the U.S. 10-year yield slid to 2.38%.
WCS actually gained 1.8% to trade around $94. Even still, energy and materials were the only negative sectors in Toronto as real estate rallied the most. Cargojet soared 13.18% on news of a deal with DHL. AutoCanada jumped 10.41%, Pollard Banknote jumped 8.61% and Well Health rose 8.3%. Laggards include Nutrien at -5.28%, Sierra Metals -4.76% and Parex Resources -3.37%. Lastly, gold was relatively flat at $1,919 an ounce.
