TSX flat, but tech leads Wall Street to fresh highs

While the TSX added only 17 points Monday to remain under 21,000, tech continued to fuel the American stock market. Though the major indices were off their session highs, both the S&P and Dow closed at all-times. The S&P added 0.22% to 4,850 while the Dow rose 0.36% to top 38,000 for the first time. Not to be outdone, the Nasdaq climbed 0.36% to establish a 52-week high. Major movers included VF Corp. up 4.96%, Albemarle at 4.88%, Western Digital 4.07%, PayPal -3.16%, and Archer-Daniels-Midland which tanked 24.29% after an accounting probe was launched of its CFO. The U.S. 10-year yield held around 4.1%, but Bitcoin slid nearly 4% to under $40,000.

The TSX was mixed with real estate and financials gaining, but staples sinking. Key names on Bay Street were Canada Goose flying 5.52%, Mullen Group up 4.22%, Precision Drilling 3.94%, Bombardier -6.62% and Algoma Steel -4.26%. WTI crude rallied 2.4% to over $75.
