The rally extends to new highs
The TSX, S&P and Dow all made fresh highs Monday as the rally continued. The rally was triggered by the U.S. Fed cutting interest rates last Wednesday by 0.5%. Gains on Monday were measured, but the TSX still added 0.11% to close at nearly 23,900 amid mixed sectors. Staples and energy were strong while health care and materials were weak.
Most active were CNQ up 0.93%, TC Energy 1.55% and B2gold -3.08%. Meanwhile, Fortuna closed -4.81% and Secure Energy Services jumped 4.25%. WTI slipped US$0.50 to US$70.50 as gold edged up US$6 to US$2,672 to maintain its own record run.
On Wall Street, the S&P added 0.28% to 5,718, the Dow 0.15% to 42,124 while the Nasdaq gained 0.14%. Major movers: Tesla 4.93%, Intel 3.3%, Regeneron -4.63%, Moody’s -3.17% and First Solar 3.78%. The U.S. 10-year yield actually edged up to 3.751% while Bitcoin increased 0.14% to US$63,300.
