Stocks fade, minerals rally and slide

Markets extended losses Wednesday as all the major indices lost ground. The S&P closed -0.28%, the Nasdaq -0.33%, the Dow -0.37% and the TSX -0.2%. In Toronto, sectors were mixed as energy and healthcare led while real estate and materials lagged. Making headlines was Lithium Americas, which rocketed 97.87% after Washington announced it would take a stake in the company. Also, in this space, Capstone Copper soared 11.25%, but Lundin Gold plunged 5.05%. Elsewhere, Celestica slid 6.19% but CNQ rose 2.5%. Gold itself slipped US$31 to US$3,732 though WTI regained 2.25% to US$64.85.
On Wall Street, Freeport McMoRan tanked 16.95% after cutting its forecast, Intel rallied 6.41%, Tesla 3.98%, KKR sank 6.32% and Apollo Global faded 5.34%. Bitcoin climbed 1.45% to US$113,625. The U.S. 10-year yield inched up to 4.149%.
