Nervous Wall Street sinks, TSX steady

U.S. investors returned from summer holidays, wiped the sunblock from their eyes and sold. They were worried over inflation, Trump’s tariffs and interest rates. The first session after Labour Day saw the S&P close -0.72%, the Nasdaq -0.77% and the Dow -0.61%.
Major movers: Ulta Beauty soaring 8.05%, but Kraft Heinz ended the session -6.83%, Constellation Brands -6.6%, Albemarle -6.34% and Nvidia -1.88%. The U.S. 10-year yield hovered around 4.273% while Bitcoin rose 2.2% to US$111,105.
The TSX also plunged on Tuesday, but managed to rally at the end to finish above water, up 39 points or 0.14%. Sectors were mixed with materials and healthcare leading, but real estate lagging the most. Notable names: CNQ 1.43%, Torex Gold 10.98%, Aya Gold & Silver 9.6%, Capstone Copper -4.18% and Gildan -3.56%. Gold itself hit new records after climbing US$61 to US$3,537, while WTI advanced 2.6% to US$65.65.
