Markets wobble, post-Nvidia

The most-anticipated earnings report of the quarter landed with mixed trading. Nvidia reported a beat late Thursday, but soft guidance. NVDA shares see-sawed between green and red on Thursday until closing -0.79%. After a weak morning, the major U.S. indices regained some ground: the S&P 0.32%, the Nasdaq 0.58% and the Dow 0.16%. Other major movers were Datadog leaping 7.01%, Fair Isaac up 6.17%, Hormel Foods -13.09% and Brown-Forman -4.86%. The U.S. 10-year yield edged down to 4.205%. Bitcoin shed 0.35% to dip below US$112,000.
Only three sectors including tech enjoyed gains on Bay Street, as the TSX declined four points. Staples and industrials were among the many sectors that saw mild losses. Bank earnings continued, again mixed: CIBC rallied 2.02% but TD sank 4.51%. EQB tumbled 11.21%, though Celestica popped 4.93% and TransAlta 4.21%. Gold rose US$22 to US$3,419 while WTI advanced 0.33% to US$34.35.
