Markets hit highs ahead of Fed

The TSX, S&P and Nasdaq made record closes on Monday, following last week’s peaks and ahead of the U.S. Fed’s interest rate decision on Wednesday. The TSX advanced 0.4% to 29,401, lifted by consumer discretionary and energy, though staples suffered the steepest losses. Sectors were mixed. Major movers: Energy Fuels 14.75%, Orla Mining 10.14%, CNQ 2.18%, B2Gold -2.57% and Birchcliffe Energy -2.81%. Gold rose another US$38 to nosebleed levels of US$3,681 while WTI climbed US$1 to US$63.30.
On Wall Street, the S&P rallied 0.47% to close above 6,6600 for the first time, the Nasdaq jumped 0.94% and the Dow 0.11%. Key names: Seagate 7.72%, Albemarle 6.66%, Tesla 3.56%, Corteva -5.68% and Alphabet(L) 4.49% to join the trillion-dollar club. The U.S. 10-year yield held around 4.038% while Bitcoin slipped US$390 to US$115,460.
