Markets fade on Mideast and rate worries

The weak ended with markets fading into the close as investors fret over the Israel-Iran war and what Trump will decide as well as what direction the key U.S. lending rate will take following the Fed’s decision to hold earlier this week. On Friday, the S&P closed 13 points lower, the Dow 35 points higher while the Nasdaq sank nearly 100. For the week, the S&P and Nasdaq shed over 1% while the Dow lost 1.75%.
Key movers during the session: Kroger 9.84%, CarMax 6.59%, Albemarle -4.61%, Arista -4.42% and Accenture -6.86%. The U.S. 10-year yield declined a handful of basis points to 4.377% while Bitcoin slipped US$800 to US$103,500.
The TSX finished the week flat and the day down 27 points. Only four sectors were positive as telcos gained the most and tech lagged the deepest. There were few dramatic moves. Tilray closed -1.92%, Pembina 1.08%, Energy Fuels -4.62%, Novagold Resources -4.39% and MDA Space 3.95%. Gold held around US$3,365 while WTI sank 20 cents to below US$75.
