Markets fade after Fed comments
The new U.S. Fed Chief, Kevin Warsh, highlighted inflation worries on Friday which sent markets slightly down to end Friday. The S&P closed -0.25%, the Nasdaq -0.52% and the Dow merely -0.02%. All gained over half a perfect for the weak, particularly the Nasdaq. Major movers on Friday: Workday 5.76%, Nvidia -4.57%, PG&E -7.52%, Intel -2.85% and PayPal -12.71%. The U.S. 10-year yield climbed up to 4.724%. Bitcoin sank 3.25% to US$77,485.
The TSX sank 0.75% Friday and almost broke even for the week. Discretionary was the strongest sector, but materials and tech led eight sectors lower. Silver fell 4.3% to US$66.15, gold slid 3% to US$4,460 and WTI slipped 0.12% to US$83.45. Major movers: GFL Environmental rallied 4.64%, CNQ -1.29%, Denison Mines -7.1%, NexGen Energy -6.96% and Secure Waste Infrastructure 3.67%.
