Yields and oil snap stocks’ streak
Stocks retreated from yesterday’s record-breaking highs after yields and the price of oil rose. WTI climbed 2.8% to US$96.40 as the U.S. and Iran war rages on while the U.S. 10-year yield edged up to 4.491%. The S&P closed -0.74%, the Nasdaq -0.89%, the Dow -1.21% and the TSX -1.05%. Techmania endured, however, with Intel surging 4.43% and Sandisk 6.71%. However, Nvidia ended the session -3.62% and Lumentum -8.86%. Moderna rallied 7.49%.
Sectors were mixed on Bay Street after sharp losses in tech and materials outweighed gains in staples. Silver slipped by 2.9% to US$72.85 and gold sank US$50 to US$4,438. Key names in Toronto: CNQ 1.47% as the most active stock, Lithium Americas -8.69%, Aya Gold & Silver -8.2%, and Athabasca Oil 3.14%.
