Stocks rally to cap record week

Helped by some strong earnings, markets in New York and Toronto rallied yet again to end a record-breaking week. The S&P advanced 0.4%, the Nasdaq 0.2% and the TSX 0.45% on Friday to establishe new record closes, surpassing highs made earlier this week. The Dow rallied 0.47% to approach its own record. The U.S. indices climbed over 1% for the week, led by the S&P at 1.45%. Meanwhile, the TSX rose 0.66% over that span. The U.S. 10-year yield edged down to 4.38% while Bitcoin slumped US$1,800 to US$16,975. In commodities, gold declined US$30 to US$3,338 while WTI sank by a dollar to US$65.
An earnings beat rocketed Deckers by 11.3% while a beat and positive guidance lifted Edwards Lifesciences by 5.5%. However, Intel missed and sank 8.5%. Meanwhile, Newmont rose 6.89% and Tesla 3.52%. In Toronto, winners included TFI International, up 5.48%, Lightspeed 4.75%, Celestica 4.24%, and Orla Mining 4.15%. Winpak, however, sank -6.6%.
