Trump blinks, markets pop

Markets surged on Thursday as Trump signaled that his administration was talking to Chinese officials to ease the tariff war, though Beijing denied any such dialogue. Nevertheless, this news and recent utterances by Trump that he would reduce tariffs against China fueled a strong rally on Wall Street: S&P up 2.03%, the Nasdaq 2.74% and the Dow 1.23%.
Amid a rally across the board, major movers included ServiceNow jumping 15.49%, Hasbro 14.58%, Nvidia 3.62% and Intel 4.37%. The U.S. 10-year yield continued to hover around 4.313% while Bitcoin held around US$93,495.
Toronto enjoyed gains as well with the TSX advancing 1.04%. Healthcare, tech and materials led nine sector upwards with key movers including Cargojet up 15.34%, Tilray 11.48%, First Quantum Minerals 4.72%, Whitecap Resources 2.12% and TFI International 7.32%. Gold added US$52 to US$3,341 while WTI climbed 0.77% to US$62.75.
