Markets whiplash on Trump tariffs

Monday saw another rollercoaser in trading as Trump openly pondered pausing car tariffs. Markets leapt after the opening, sunk by noon, then rallied again, but fell short of the day’s earlier highs. The three U.S. indices rose by 0.64-0.77% as the U.S. 10-year yield edged down to 4.38%.
Key names included Apple up 2.21%, Palantir 4.6%, Ford 4.02%, Charles River Labs 6.87% and Enphase Energy 5.13%. Bitcoin climbed 1.6% to US$84,800.
The TSX outperformed Wall Street as all sectors lifted the index by 1.28% or more than 300 points. Telcos, real estate, discretionary and staples were the strongest. Major movers: Lundin up 6.16%, TD 2.64%, BCE 1.42%, First Majestic Silver 5.73% and MAG Silver 5.72%. Gold slipped US$25 to US$3,212 while WTI held at US$61.60.
