Stocks climb pre-holidays
The last full trading day before Christmas was a jolly one as markets in Toronto and New York rose. On Bay Street, all but three sectors including real estate gained as the TSX advanced 0.61%. Energy and particularly healthcare rallied.
Major movers for the day were CNQ up 1.58%, Power 1.06%, Suncor 1.55%, Birchcliff Energy 7.01% and Tilray soaring 15.17%. WTI barely climbed to US$69.50 a barrel while gold declined US$10 to US$2,613.
In New York, the S&P rallied 0.73%, the Nasdaq 0.98% and the Dow 0.16%. Once more, tech lead the way with Nvidia adding 3.69%, Intel 3.48%, AMD 4.52% and Broadcom 5.24%. Meanwhile, Carnival ended Monday -3.99%. The U.S. 10-year inched up to 4.589% while Bitcoin sank over 1% to US$94,000. Markets on both sides of the border will close early tomorrow, Christmas Eve.
