Dow and TSX climb
Nvidia beat late Wednesday in the most-anticipated earnings report of the year, but it wasn’t enough for investors who sold shares down by 6.38% on Thursday. While the S&P was flat and the Nasdaq slipped 0.23%, the Dow closed 0.59% higher and made a new intra-day high. Other major movers: Best Buy soared 14.11%, Intel added 2.65% and the discount retailers sold off with Dollar General at -32.15% and Dollar Tree -10.24%. Meanwhile, both the U.S. 10-year yield held around 3.863% and Bitcoin at US$59,375.
Over on Bay Street, Canadian stocks showed strength as the TSX rose 100 points or 0.43%. Key movers were Kinaxis up 7.24%, CNQ 1.16%, and Parex Resources -23.64%. Bank earnings continued and were again mixed: National Bank -2.2% and CIBC 5.51%. In commodities, gold continued to shine, adding US$16 to US$2,531, while WTI crude rallied 1.85% to nearly US$76 a barrel.
